If you want to know how to get Man Utd tickets for 2026/27, start here: for a standard home seat at Old Trafford you need to be a paying club member first, and even then the biggest games go to a ballot. There's no turning up on the day with cash. This guide covers the membership tiers, how home tickets are sold, season tickets, the forwarding rules the club is now enforcing hard, and what away tickets really look like.

Last checked 19 October 2026. Ticketing rules and prices change, so check the club's own pages before you buy.

Do you need a membership to buy Man Utd tickets?

Yes, for general home match tickets. The club's 2026/27 membership page lists four tiers:

  • Premium Membership, £70 a season. Home match ticket access plus extras, including MUTV access and a £20 United Store voucher.
  • Official Membership, £37.50. Old Trafford match ticket access, retail discounts and 15% off selected matchday hospitality.
  • Under 16 Membership, £20. Old Trafford match ticket access for kids, with tour and retail savings.
  • Forwarding Membership, £30. You can't buy or apply for tickets yourself. It only lets you receive tickets forwarded to you by a season ticket holder.

Benefits run from 1 July each season, per the same page. So £37.50 is the real entry fee before you've bought a single ticket, and a membership doesn't promise you a seat. It buys you the right to try.

How home tickets are sold

The club sells member tickets online, one ticket per member, and you pick your seat from the stadium plan. You'll need to be logged in with your membership number ready. Home cup games are added to the fixture list after each draw. The club also runs Ticket Alerts, which are worth switching on because releases go fast.

For the big fixtures there's a ballot. "For selected home games, you will need to apply in a ballot for the chance to secure a ticket," says the membership page, and applications go through the club's ticketing site when they open. Only members can enter, as the club's own guide to member ticket access puts it. That same guide says members also get access to seats released by season ticket holders before a game, which is where a lot of late availability comes from. Keep checking in the final days before kick-off.

If you're hoping for a seat via general sale, without a membership, don't bank on it. As Football Ground Guide explains, tickets only reach the public when season ticket holders and members haven't bought them, and that mostly happens for smaller cup ties.

Season tickets and the 2026/27 price rise

Season tickets are the only way to guarantee every home league game, and they're the hardest thing in English football to get hold of. If you're on the waiting list, expect a long wait.

They also cost more again this season. The club put season tickets up by around 5% across all areas of Old Trafford for 2026/27, which it said works out at just over £2 a game for adults and £1 for under-16s. That came after the Football Supporters' Association asked clubs for a two-season freeze. The Manchester United Supporters' Trust called it "disappointing" and said another 600 fans were being moved out of their seats in the Sir Bobby Charlton Stand to make room for more hospitality, per the same Press Association report.

Read that back. Higher prices, and regulars shifted so the club can sell the same view to someone paying for a three-course lunch. That's the deal on offer, and you should go in knowing it.

Forwarding a ticket: the rules that now get people banned

This is the part that catches people out. Members may only forward tickets to other members or sell them back to United, the Irish Times reported in July, when the club started suspending season tickets linked to accounts accessed from six or more devices.

By September it had gone further. City AM reported that 685 season ticket holders were banned after 1,617 members were investigated, for reselling above face value and for password sharing. The club told City AM it "is not profiting from this process" and said the released seats would go to the waiting list.

Whatever you think of how the club handled it (supporters' groups told the Irish Times fans were being "treated as suspects"), the practical advice is simple. Don't log in to someone else's account, don't let a mate use yours, and only take a ticket that's been forwarded to your own membership properly.

Away tickets

Away tickets are a different world. The membership page states that domestic away games and cup finals aren't available to Official members. In practice they go to long-standing season ticket holders, and away allocations are small: even the biggest grounds only hand visiting fans several thousand seats, and plenty give far fewer.

For European away games, the club's member guide says members can apply, and Football Ground Guide explains that priority goes to fans with the most credits from previous European away games. With United back in the Champions League this season (we've already lost in Madrid), demand for every trip is huge. The club has also promised to restore ticket collections for European away games and publish its allocation and ballot data again. It should never have stopped.

Resale sites and touts

Secondary sites will happily sell you a Man Utd ticket at several times face value. Two problems. Selling a football ticket without the club's permission is a criminal offence under section 166 of the Criminal Justice and Public Order Act 1994. And given the bans above, a ticket bought from a stranger's account is exactly what the club is hunting. If the seat gets cancelled, you're the one stood outside the turnstile with nothing.

The safe routes are membership, the club's own ticketing site, a ticket properly forwarded to your membership, or official hospitality.

FAQs

Can I buy Man Utd tickets without a membership? Rarely. Home tickets go to members first, and only seats members don't take reach general sale, mostly for smaller cup games.

How much is a Man Utd membership in 2026/27? £37.50 for Official, £70 for Premium, £20 for under-16s and £30 for Forwarding, per the club's membership page.

Which games are ballots? The club picks "selected home games". The big ones go to a ballot, so check the ticketing site as soon as the fixture is confirmed.

Can I use someone else's season ticket? Only if it's forwarded to your own membership under the club's rules. Logging in to their account is how people have lost season tickets this year.
